Am looking for Hardin’s out of Georgia, well it’s where my grandpa and grandma lived . Grandmother was a Colbert , they had 4 boys and a girl I heard died as a baby .
I'm mainly looking for my great grand father. I heard his name is Rufus Hardin born around 1879. His son is Claude Ernest Hardin born in hot Spring Arkansas in 1896,Claud's mother (Rufus's wife is Ida Bell Hardin (Sevier) on the 1930 census for Claud shows his dads birth place is Mississippi don't know if that's Mississippi Arkansas or the state. I know Ida Belle married again in 1909 to a William Lomax . I can not find any information on Rufus. Heard he might have been a firefighter in Arkansas or was an Indian agent. and might have moved to Burke, ID maybe on the Naz Perce Indian reservation. Claud moved to Kansas City Missouri. where he married Addie Southard then married Ruth Pepper- Shelp - Hardin
Andrea, I need to check our atDNA matches, but I'm pretty sure that Benjamin is the one that is in the family tree of 1 or 2 of our cousin matches. I will post in a few days.
Family stories relate a "Martin" Hardin as kin to our James Hardin (b. 1801-TN). We have yet to determine who this is. John Wesley Hardin was said to be close kin to my 2nd gr-grandmother, Julia Hardin Cauble. In Hill and McLennan Co.'s, TX, they were close proximity to outlaws. Givens Starr, son of Rufus Starr (of the outlaw Starr's) and Susan Pierce King Starr, is found living with my Hardin-Cauble's in Callahan TX (1870's, I think..or 1880 census). Rufus tried to leave the outlaw life; he was found..killed, house burned with Susan in it. Kids lived with other friends and family members, thus Givens with my people. The older King siblings of Givens lived in Kerr Co. TX and the one and only JWH, I'm told by King researchers, was a frequent visitor.
My Great Grandmother was Sarah Ann Hardin, dau of Thomas M Hardin b 1812 in TN d 1847 in MO and Mary A McCandless b 1816 TN d 1902 in TN. Thomas Hardin was the son of Martin Hardin b c 1764 in NC d 1826 TN and Mary Whitson b c 1782 NC d aft 1835 in TN. Martin was son of William Everett Hardin (Rev War Capt) b1741 VA d 1810 GA and Sarah Bledsoe b 1741 VA d1843 MS. William E was son of Henry Hardin b 1710 VA d 1797 VA and Judith Lynch b 1711 VA.
William and Judith Hardin were also the parents of Swan Hardin b 1773 m Jerusah Blackburn b 1773. Benjamin Watson m Eliz Hearne & was son of Swan Hardin. Benjamin's son was James Gibson Hardin, a preacher, who m Mary Eliz Dixon, James Gibson's son was the famous John Wesley Hardin, who is my third cousin once removed.
Thomas M Hardin is somewhat of a mystery. We know that he had moved to Wayne Co MO by 1838 when Sarah was born. He and Mary would have four children, the last being born in 1838 in TN after Thomas' death in 1847 in MO. No documentation of his death has been found. Some believe that he died of a gun shot wound, tho there are no details or proof.
To make the story more interesting, Mary, Thomas' widow, would marry Amos Hardin from the Joseph Hardin line after the 1850 Census.
My 3rd gr-grandfather was James Hardin, b. ca. 1801-TN; he moved to AR; married probably 1st Nancy Ellen Cocke; 1 daughter; then he married Louisa Matthews/Mathews b. 1818-IL. They moved from AR to MO to AR and then to TX by 1860. Harden-In-Ing association says he was out of the old Col. Joseph Hardin line, but we have no proof of that. DNA testing at 23andMe (not Y-DNA testing of males) but autosomal has us matching a couple of descendants of Benjamin Hardin.
