The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

Many people know about using regular Google Search for genealogy, for example to find family trees posted online or genealogy resources. Playing around with some of my own ancestors' names in Google -- and finding information! -- launched me into family history research.

Less well known, however, is how to use a Google Books search, especially when researching early ancestors in New England. Google has digitized a wide array of family history books and some are available in full text format. When researching my Bradley ancestors in Litchfield, Connecticut, I found many helpful books via Googe Books including a genealogical register and cemetery transcriptions. Invaluble!

Learn more about using Google Search, Google Book Search and Google News Archives search in a recent blog entry at Relative Musings.

Also in that entry are TJD's "Top 5 Free Genealogy Websites" to help you find your family.

Google is one of my favorite resources, I can also see where I've already been, because when I google the names I have previously posted on forums, they will usually pop up on the first page of the hits.

Happy searching! Barbara
In an earlier posting, I suggested learning about how to use Google Search, Google Book Search and Google News Archives search for genealogy by reading a recent blog entry in my Relative Musings blog.

Here I want to suggest that you read a recent blog entry at Genea-Musing by Randy Seaver. In his posting he summarizes a presentation by Gena Philibert Ortega at a recent San Diego Genealogical Society meeting. She discussed a total of 18 strategies and Google tools, a mind-bloggling number!

But you are likely to discover at least one or two new ways to find family for free. If you do, I hope you will share what you discover here so others can learn from your success.
