I am a new member of the Devon Geneology group and in my exploring the site or related sites I read someone's message asking for information about Daniel Emmett.  I have data about him and his family but now can't find that message.  Worse, I can't find how to tell anyone hence my contacting you.  I don't want to go outside the Devon Geneology group.

I just finished reading DNA USA by Bryan Sykes. I enjoyed the book but of course I am into genealogy DNA. Still lots of DNA stuff I am not familiar with and the technology is moving faster than I can keep up with. Sykes spent 3 months travelling across the USA trying to understand the American melting pot of genes. Sykes used new DNA methodology called Chromosome Painting to look at some individual DNA. This painting method was used to distinguish European, African and Asian/Native American DNA markers that may show up in individual DNA results.

One interesting item that caught my attention was a colored map of the USA showing self-declared ancestries in the highest proportions in each county taken from the 2000 census. I was surprised to see such a large group of German ancestry indicated in what appears to be at least one half of the USA. Almost all of Michigan shows German ancestry except for a couple of very small areas of Dutch, African American and Finnish ancestries. Almost every state west of Penn. in the northern half of the USA showed mainly German. You can find the map on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maps_of_American_ancestries

I'm sorry if this is not the best place for this but having seen the mails from Richie C. on January 23, 2010 at 2:17pm in Cruwys Genealogy (of which I'm not a member) regarding the Cruwys line I thought you'd both like to see the attached tree listing Cruwys and Pollard. I don't know its origin, it was sent to me my a researcher some years ago.

Oh. Thank You for offer to help with Pennsylvania Cruse. All I really really know is that back to my GGGrandfather-who came to Ohio from PA-we are all from Miami County, Ohio. I have a bit of info on my GG's father and some iffy info on his father, all PA people. I also have some info on their wives' people. I would love to know whatever you can offer. Thanks! suz

when I signed up on the GW I listed on the Advanced Researcher. I think I was wrong. In 1990 I had a brain tumor removed follow by a stroke. Before that I could of signed up "Advanced" but I am still working my way back there! I am really enjoying the Genealogy Wise and all the groups it has to offer. I have been Deaf most of my life and joining anything with genealogy is still pretty much impossible with us. This has open many doors and I think you all. Thank you Debbie K. for your note for me. thanks,yes im irish my family are from kilmainhamwood in co meath maybe decendants from the cruises from cruisetown which is in the same parish, i have been unable to trace my great- great grandparents as records didnt take place until 1867 i have a family tree which was given to me and has plenty of information on the cruises of ireland and my own family i would be happy to share if anyone is interested.john

I can't test for Pigg DNA as it was my father's line, although I have living male cousins who could test. I am going to ask one to test, because so far I can't prove my Pigg line in America. I was hoping we could learn something about Pigg from those in England and world wide. I used to email a Pigg descendant in Australia.
I have another line that came to Colonial America from Devon, and that family may have descendants there. I saw your interest in Devon DNA. I have not yet tested. Perhaps you could give me pointers, in choosing a group for MtDNA, and how far I really need to go back. I have a son to test in the Taylor group. Many of my lines appear to descend from English families.
