I, too, am interested in Harrington's from southwest County Cork. I have a couple of different lines from there, one being from Ballydonegan.
Tom - all of this in southwest County Cork around Skibbereen: in my family tree: Catherine Walsh, born 1859 from Skeagh Skibbereen married ca 1879 to Daniel Harrington of Kilkilleen, Skibbereen. Don't know how many children they had - I know about 5 - one nun, two priests, Ellen born in the 1890s who maried Timothy O'Regan of Gurteenroe, Skibbereen, and Catherine who married Thomas Murphy of Leap, Co Cork.

Do you see any connections here?
Barbara in St. Louis, Missouri USA

Barbara, I believe that my Harrington line is from Kilkilleen. My ancestor is Daniel Harrington (1812-1884) married to Ellen Murphy (1815-1889). Both Daniel and Ellen died in Kilkilleen and their son Daniel was the witness for their death records. Their son is the Daniel Harrington who married Catherine Walsh.

I am descended from James Harrington (1846-1916) who moved to Ohio. He would have been a brother to your Daniel.

I am looking for more info and potentially would pay for a Y-DNA test for a male-line descendant of Daniel to prove the connection. There is already a Y-DNA tested descendant from James Harrington to compare.

Thanks

Hi Barbara - I don't see any connection with mine. My great -great grandparents were Patrick Harrington who married Mary Harrington in Ballydonegon in 1845. Mary was the daughter of Daniel Harrington and Ellen Kelly. Patrick and Mary emigrated to America in 1862.

Tom - I also have an Ellen Minihane, born 1843 in Ballyally, Skibbereen, who married Denis Harrington, from the Skibbereen area in southwest County Cork. They married in Skibbereen in the 1860s. They emigrated to San Francisco after their marriage and were not heard from.

Where is Ballydonegon? Nearest large town?

Hi Barbara,

I see I msispelled Ballydonegan. It isn't really close to any larger towns. A search on Google maps shows it well. It is right on the southwest coast of County Cork.

Gary Griffin - if you contact me at barbwalsh49@gmail.com, I can send you the info I have on my Daniel Harrington/Catherine Walsh family.  You can then see if you can find direct descendants of Daniel. I can also give you some other info.
