Mayo Ancestors: The official genealogy records for county Mayo. This site has County Mayo Birth, Marriage, and Death records from ca. 1850-1900. Pay as you go. A very useful resource. http://mayoancestors.com/
The Ireland Placenames database: this site is very useful for finding out information about an Irish location, and for trying to figure out which townland name is the right one http://www.logainm.ie/

My great grandmother Bridget Bourke who was born Feb 3/5, 1897 in we think Bohola to Patrick Bourke and Anne Kilgallon. She had a few brothers Walter, Patrick and John. There was a story one of her brothers was killed during the great war there. She came to America when she was in her teens after her mother died. I have looked on Ellis and I havent had any luck. I just want to make the connection there and find the info on her family in Ireland. She died in 1953. Lotsa Bourkes lotsa Bridgets..very confusing.
Hi, Kristen:
My grandmother was the Ellen Doris you're looking for. She arrived not in New York, but in Boston, and later made her way with Bridge to New York. She had 5 children, the last and youngest of whom, John, died four years ago. She has a great niece still alive; I think she's the oldest still living from that line.

Another good multipurpose site with links to the National Archives and other research locations.
I figured they must be onto something since I met each couple on separate days and they both said the same thing. I have reviewed list of births from 1850 that show how many of each surname was born in each county; County Mayo and Galway definitely rate one of the highest for the Hughes name. If only I had some clue as to where and when..... Until I do, I will just keep educating myself on resources so I know where to go when that time comes.
