Dear Alice,

I came across your name (at least I think it was you he mentioned!) in a presentation available on youtube looking at DNA evidence vs the Irish Annals by a Mr Larkin. The presentation noted that you had done extensive work on linking the Scot's modal L1065 signature with having Dal Riadan origins. I wonder if it would be possible to communicate with yourself about this work?

Kind Regards,

Ross Buchanan

The Red River Settlement was located at the forks of the Red and Assiniboine and grew into Winnipeg, MB. It began in 1811, with the first Mathesons arriving in 1813. These Mathesons were from the parish of Kildonan in (northeast) Sutherland, Scotland.

Hi~
I just read a comment you left on John Matheson's wall re. DNA testing of other John Mathesons. I wonder if you have any results for Red River Settlement Matheson descendants?

The Scott MacDonald Matheson is regrettably not my cousin. His full name is Scott Wade Matheson and is the eldest of two to Bruce J. and Mary Jo Matheson. Thanks for the info on the Kyle of Localsh (sp?) it's going to be a blast of a trip to be sure. James

from James Matheson. A slight mistake in my GGG`s. the John Matheson I mentioned was my GGF not my GGGF. Now I am getting mixed up. Cheers.

from James Matheson. You were wondering where Canisbay was. Yes it is in the north of Caithness. As already mentioned my GGGF was born in Canisbay in 1779,however, I can go back one step further because his father, my GGGGF, was a William Mathison, spelt with an "i" rather than an "e". My GGGF married for a second time in 1816 and from this family a James, b.1820 and a George,b.1827 both emigrated to Geelong in Australia,an Alexander,b.1831, emigrated of New York about 1854.
From my GGGF, John M.,from the first marriage of his father William, two sons emigrated,James b.1856 to Detroit and John b.1850 to the Palmerston area of New Zealand. Hope this is of some use.
