I have beeen using FTM 11 for years. When I upgraded to FTM2008 I found that I did not like the format, so I removed it from my hard drive. Unfortunately it appears to have done something to my FTM11 and I have a very hard time opening and closing it. Had upgraded to FTM11 on line and have no hard copy to reload. What do I do now? Does someone have FTM11 or a later version with the same format?
Russ,
Thank you for your response. I tried it this morning to be specific. This is what happened: My FTM opened up a a little slower than normal, but that was not a problem. It USUALLY says "not responding" at this point, but did not today. I tried closing it down. It took 5 minutes to back up my family file. Then it got stuck on 100% for 4 minutes before it actually shut down. I had nothing else open except genealogywise.com, so I could respond.
I have 6 different trees on my FTM v11. 4 of them I was able to move with no problem. The other 2 would not. I ran the utilities over and over on the smaller of the 2 remaining trees. At first the FileCompression told me my tree was corrupt. It did not say that today. FileChecker found 10 errors. My attempts always ended with this message: Import failed because an unknown error occured. Can you help me find this "unknown error"?

Enter 1396 into the "Keyword Search" box and read that Knowledge Base Article. It should help you with this Error Message, and describe how to use the LOG file

I upgraded to 2009 and at first did not like it but now find it has so many more features than the earlier versions. You may need to get a later one that 11 as I still have 16 working seperatley to 2009 and I know someone who did the same when using 2008. have you tried contacting family Tree Maker for advise.
I know I didn't give v2008 enough time. I was disappointed when I had to move all my info manually and then saw there was no longer any "scrapbook" tab. What happens to everything you have in "scrapbook" when you move it to v2008? I have contacted FTM about my last problem but they cannot help me.
