I had done that but deleted the the one and re linked the right one . That must be
what it is that causes this. Now how do I rectify it. ? I thought that had been
taken care of. I guess there are hidden links that did not get replaced. Should I
just delete my whole family and re enter it?
Thanks.

Lewis, have you given yourself 2 mothers?
Comment by Lewis Hartswick on May 19, 2010 at 9:38pm
Yep I started with ME and then wife then brothers and then father etc. And yes
I can start with myself and go up all the way, if I go beyond my father, to granddad
then back down it's fine. I's just that one step, up to dad then back down that
doesn't work . I've checked all the entries in the index and no dups. :-(
But thanks for the try. :-)

Can I ask you this question when you click on your father from you do you see his parents. I think you may have a duplicate entry and you are attached to that entry. Have you checked for duplicates in your file yet. It would seem you have one person in twice. And you may only be attached to a duplicate entry for your father. Did you start from scratch with your tree or did you import it from another tree after you had entered your data. I would mean you have to merge the duplicates and make sure as you move back from yourself they are linked to you. It may be a very simple fix but not being able to see your tree its make it diffucult to see what the problem is. I still think its a duplicate entry one linked to you the other not.

Thanks Rick, I cleared the bookmarks but the three little "windows" at the bottom
of the page still have a person listed as a "jump to" sort of thing.
The other problem is not a double entry, at least in the index, of names. I do see
a double of myself when I look at the list of siblings of my brothers. ie. with one
of my brothers in the main person and click the siblings icon. They are both
shown as [1] + so I don't know how that happened.
Any other ideas? Thanks.

Clearing the bookmarks is very easy just click on the book to the left of the bookmarks and select clear all if you want them all gone. Or just delete the ones you want to remove. The other problem I would check to make sure you have not entered him twice in your tree first and if so just merge them. Hope this helps

A couple questions: How do I get rid of the "bookmarks" at he bottom of the page?
and I have some sort of a "link" problem. When I look at my own entry by opening
there and then clicking on my father, I see only myself as children, but if I go to
my father by starting at my grandfather I see myself and the three brothers. as
children.. It depends on where I "approach" the entry for my father what it
shows a children. Any idea what I have messed up? And how to correct it?
Thanks.

Has anyone addressed the question of whether a person should be listed as a Jew if they were a prcticing Jew or a Jew (from Isreal). It seems to me that if a person is a practicing Jew their offspring may not be considered Jewish.
I have one that was is from Lithuania and I mistakenly assumed that he would have "tribal" Jewish roots.

William I had a similar problem entering a mixed case surname e.g. DeJong. With the default options, I could enter it that way, but if I chose another surname data format option (Options/Customize/Data Format), then I could not get back the mixed case option. If I chose "Don't change what I enter" under Letter Case of Surnames, then the Apply button was disabled.

I finally fixed it by choosing to Reset to Defaults on the Customize screen, followed by Save. Unfortunately that resets all customizations.

Ross,

There is not a way to do this directly, but if you know some SQL and have Open Office, you can. I imagine that it can also be done using Access, but I do not know that program. To open your .fdb file in OOo see my Tutorial at http:www.fergys.co.uk/Blogs/OODB.php
