Researching Woods from Scotland. My bunch was from the Edinburgh area then re-located to Ireland in the 1840s and at some point (during the 1860s I think) came to Ontario, Canada before eventually settling in Isabella Co., Michigan in the 1880s.
My husbands grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Davis (Fields, Woods,Adams) second husband was Wiley Woods (MS/TN areas) from this union was born Andrew Woods, Josie Woods and Johnny Woods and I believe Connie who died in infancy I believe Wiley Woods died sometime in 1924. I have a picture of him somewhere.
I'm trying to find out about my great grandfather. I know almost nothing about him, not even his first name, but I decided it was worth a try. All I know is he was Scottish, his surname was Wood and had 3 children (that I know of) with an English woman. The three children were named Hugh, Harry and Janet. Hugh, my grandfather, changed his name to William at some point and was often known as Bill. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I am researching James Woods and Sarah Jackson.
They were married at St Saviours Church of Ireland Church Kilmore Parish county Armagh, Ireland.
Their children were
Martha c1879 born at Clonroot Armagh, Ireland.
Mary c1881 born at Clonroot, Armagh, Ireland
John 1883 born at Clonroot, Armagh, Ireland
James c1885 born at Clonroot, Armagh, Ireland
Robert c1888 born at Battle Hill, Armagh, Ireland
Jackson c1891 born at Drumard Jones, Armagh, Ireland
Martha Jane c1898 born at Annaboe, Armagh, Ireland
Sarah Florence c1903 born at Annaboe, Armagh, Ireland
I am researching the Thomas Wood family in Caroline Co, MD in the early 1800s. Father may have been Joseph Wood. Other Woods are from Frederick, Calvert, and Somerset Counties, but I have been unable to connect them. Any other researchers working on MD Woods?
I am research the line of Squire (or possibly Charles) Wood, b c 1802 in NY or VT, marr to Jerusha Taylor b c 1804 VT. Earliest I have them is 1830 in Fowler, St Lawrence, NY. They had moved to Turin, Lewis, NY by 1840, where they remained till after 1860. I have 11 children for them:
Josiah Daniel b 1825 NY- to Erie co, PA by 1860 and WI in 1870s
2 unknown daughters b 1825-1830
Jason S b c1829 NY or VT- to WI by 1855
Ransom b 1832 NY- to Chautauqua co, NY by 1855, the to Erie & Warren cos, PA
Lucinda b c1833 NY
Charles H b 1835 NY- to Erie co, PA by 1870, then to MI
Melinda b c1836 NY
Paulina b c1838 NY
Ellen (Nellie) b 1843 NY- mar to Albert Neff and in Erie co, PA by 1870, mar to Walter Work by 1880 still in Erie co, in Chicago by 1900. Mother Jerusha lived with her after Squire's death in 1864 (at home of one of his sons in Erie co) till her death in 1881.
Truman b c1845 NY- supposedly ran away to join the army in 1863 under the assumed name of Lafayette Brown. Was a POW and died at Salisbury Prison, NC.
Indications are that Squire may have been born in VT, but at least his parents were from there. The Wood Family Index indicates that there was a Charles Wood in Essex co, VT whose children included Squire and Charles, but says that Charles married Jerusha Taylor, not Squire. It goes on to show Charles and Jerusha in NY with their children, who are listed as Josiah, Jason, Mary, Lucinda, Truman, Martha, Ransom, Melinda, Rosina, and Ellen (very similar to what I have).
Now, the dilemma: The census records all show Squire Wood in St Lawrence & Lewis counties, I have a death notice from a Lowville NY paper saying Squire, a former resident of Turin (Lewis co) had died at the home of his son in PA, and son Charles' MI death cert listed his parents as Squire Wood & Jerusha Taylor. BUT I found a death cert for Nellie E Work, who I believe to be daughter Ellen, listing her parents as Charles Wood & Jerusha Taylor.
I suppose it could be a case of middle and first names getting switched around, which happened often enough, and the Wood Family Index may be incorrect in showing brothers Squire and Charles. In addition, it said that their father Charles lived in Brandon, Essex co, VT in 1790, and that all his children were born in Essex co, but Essex county didn't exist untill after that, and Brandon was (and still is) way over in Rutland county. I haven't been able to locate a Charles Wood at all in Essex county through the early censuses.
So, does anyone have any familiarity with this line? I had been stuck at Squire for years, recently found the Wood index info and thought I'd finally cracked my brick wall, and now with the death certs, I'm left confused as to who Squire actually was.
I am researching the family of Sabra Wood. She was one of my GGGrandmothers on my mother's side. Sabra's parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Butcher Wood. Thomas was born abt. 1771. Sabra was born in Surry Co.,NC so they moved there at some point if he was not born there. Do not know for sure where he was born. Thomas and Eliz. were listed in the 1850 Surry Co. census as living in the Rockford District. Would love to have additonal info on this family.

My name is Kay Wood - Brown, daughter of Barry Wood, granddaughter of Stanley Wood, great-granddaughter of George Henry Wood, who was born in Gores Landing, Ontario, Canada and whose father was Richard Wood, who was born in England or Scotland and died in Ontario, Canada. Richard was also the father of John and Albert Wood. Albert was possibly born in Scotland or Ontario, Canada, that's a gray area. When the Wood family settled in Michigan, it was in the Isabella and Montcalm county areas, but my Uncle Bill (Floris William Wood) is the genealogist in the family and knows much of that information. You can access the information on the research he's done tracks our family history to even before the year 125 A.D., though he tells me that information isn't guaranteed 100% correct.
Any information on Franklin Frazer Wood who was born March 28, 1810 in LaGrange, Troup Co.,Georgia or Tallapoosa, Alabama. He died in Gonzales, Gonzales Co., Texas on July 16, 1875. He married Sarah Ann Wilson December 29, 1833 in Troup Co., Ga. She was b. June 2, 1816 in LaGrange, Troup Co., Ga. or Montcillo, Japer, Ga. d. January 3, 1900 in Gonzales, Texas. She was the dtr. of Rev. Benjamin Hazeltine Wilson and Susannah Cameron.

Hi, I have a lot of information on my Wood Family.. They originated from Frederick Co, MD and St. Georges Co, MD and St. Mary's Co MD, some of the family moved to NC, then into KY, then up to Greene Co, ILL, and on into Clark, Knox, and Scotland Co MO. I have photo's of some of the Wood Family going back as far as early 1900's. Will share with those who are a part of this Wood Family.
I'm researching the family of Joseph Wood, born around 1850 in Derby, England then moved to Leicester, England. I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they might have connections to my Wood.
Still looking for ANY information on Franklin Frazier Wood who married Sarah Ann Wilson. He spent most of his life in Gonzales, Texas. Served in Civil War. Is buried in Gonzales Masonic Cemetery in the large Wood plot. He was born in either Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama in 1810. Know he lived in LaGrange, Ga.?, Tallapoosa and Texas. Any connection whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Have tried for years to find information on him. He was my gr. gr. grandfather. Have family bible where he gave it to his daughter-in-law Eliza Jeter Wood. She had married his son, Wm. B. Wood who died in his mid 30's. Am in mid 70's so need some info desperately.
Nancy (Featherly Stump) - I would like to contact you about your Wood family. I have a brickwall. William Riley Wood's parents were supposedly killed in a fire and he was raised in an orphanage. He was born 22 FEB 1858inIllinois He married Ellen D. Cannady in Illinois after 1878. I have seen his parents listed as Joseph Wood and Sallie in some trees, but no information about them. 1900 census has them in Cherokee & Walnut Townships, Payne, Oklahoma Territory . Tina
HI Tina, I would be more than happy to help you with the Wood Family. My email address is nancyfeatherly@yahoo.com, please email me and I will get the information on my Wood Family. If you can give me anymore information on William Riley Wood, it would be helpful. It is very possible he is part of my Wood Family, we have a lot of Riley in the family, as my 6th great grandmother is a Riley, so there was a lot of the males whose first or middle name was Riley. Nancy
I am trying to reconstruct a family line with scanty information. My last Wood ancestor I have information on was I. Thomas Wood, born in Bunkle, Berwickshire, England in 1813, married Isabella Hall Sewell in 1849 on Charles St in Baltimore, died c. 1880. All the family genealogy was divided and the Wood genealogy went elsewhere years ago. All I know is that through him , we are related to Rogans, Owens and Warfields (no particular order) and ultimately to Bowies and some connection to Jim Bowie. I have followed dozens of possibilities but nothing works out. I would be ever so grateful if anyone recognizes a connection. Anne
