Hi ya'll! I;m new at this so if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. I am looking for information on one of my ancestors. He would be Obediah Cox served in Texas in the 12 Calvary, Company K, Texas. How can I find more information on him?

I have several Southern soldiers in my ancestry, but I have found that I am interested in a number of the interest groups. I'm worried about being deluged by email. Is it possible to get a digest email once a week?

Hi Deborah, have you done a search on Footnote? They have great Confederate records, esp pay rosters, which might help you determine if they are the same people.

I'm trying to determine if the following individuals could possibly be the same person, but I don't know if it was unusual to have more than one enlistment date. Do the enlistment dates below refer to when these soldiers joined that particular regiment or the confederacy itself?
:
DRAKE, Abram Pvt Age 32 Enl 31 Aug 1861 at Pocahontas, AR (Company G, 14th Regiment (McCarver's) Arkansas .
DRAKE, A. B. Pvt (Company F, 21st McCarver's Arkansas Infantry Regiment)
DRAKE, A. B. Pvt Enl 19 July 1862, Lawrence Co, Ark (Company B, 38th Arkansas Regiment).

Pocahontas, Ar is in Randolph County, adjacent to Lawrence County. My ancestor Abraham DRAKE lived in Lawrence County in 1860. Since McCarver's 14th regiment turned into the 21st, it is probable that the first two soldiers are the same person.
I'm curious about the following as well:
1. Is the place of enlistment typically where the soldier was living at the time?
2. Why wouldn't a soldier's first name be spelled out, as in "A. B. Drake" if he was enlisting for the first time or only time?
3. And this is probably glaringly obvious to most in this group, but I'm having a hard time discovering how one determines whether a soldier was a volunteer or a regular? Thanks in advance to anyone for their guidance.

Stacy -- have you tried contacting the Cemetery Sexton at the Bardstown Cemetery? It's possible his gravesite was moved, but if so, the cemetery could still have records of it, even if he didn't make their online list of soldiers buried there.

I am proud to state that at least three of my great grandfathers served and fought honorablly for the Confederacy. My problem is my g-grandfather John Wesley Marr who lived in Clay County, MO.. In the obituary for one of John's sons it was stated that John served with General Sterling Price during the War that John was wounded and his leg was amputated. But I can find no record of his having served. I was told that he was quite active in the Confederate Veterans Association. Not needing the money, he never made an application for the Confederate pension. I did not find him in the CW soldier/sailor site and I can't find him in any material about Gen Price. What I am hoping is that members of this group can help me prove that John Marr did serve the Confederacy. Here's hoping. Phillip
