this just came to mind. I have never found out what it means. My grandfather was 5 years old in the 1850 Appling County census. The head of household was about 65 and I believe she was his grandmother. I think a daughter living in the house was his mother. Anyway, he i listed as Eli W. (C.H.L.). Has anyone come across this or have any idea what CHL means?

Welcome Mary Anne! Make sure to list your SURNAMES in the COUNTY Discussion thread for them.

For example, there is an existing WILKES & WARRENTON Discussion where your Washington-Wilkes Ancestors can be listed. Feel free to create a new County Discussion if one doesn't already exist. Here's the list of Discussions we have to date - http://www.genealogywise.com/group/georgiarootdiggers/forum

Now, where were your WRIGHTS from? I have a WRIGHT Ancestor from Wilkes County!:-)

Luckie.

My Georgia roots are in Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, Gilmer, Franklin, Meriwether and Wilkes. Have done extensive research on my Foote line, Greenwood line, and working on Wright, Reeves, Byrd and Rice lines. Some of my ancestors can be back tracked into Union Cty SC (the Footes & Rices) and from there back to NC, and into Virginia. My Greenwoods go back into Virginia also.

Dorliss...do you know the names of anyone in her family? Anyone...mother, father, sisters, brothers. I'm sure you have probably checked alternate spellings.

Luckie, that's just it. No one in the family knows where she came from in Georgia. Or even if her name was Blaylock or Layrock. That is where I run into my brick wall. Grandpa's birth record says Layrock. He died in 1982. And his sister's surviving daughter doesn't know what it was either.

Dawn - make sure to post her Surnames to the existing WALTON County Discussion. Since I don't see a WAYNE Discussion, I'll start one for you!:-)

I am also just started researching my daughter-in-laws GA roots. She has Fulcher, Thompson, Smith, Garrett, Rollins and Still in DeKalb, Walton and Wayne counties

Dorrliss - what County was your BLAYLOCK Great Granny come from? Make sure to post her name in an existing COUNTY discussion, to make it easy for other researchers to find your information. If your county isn't represented, feel free to get the discussion started!:-)

I am researching my husband's family here in GA. The names are Stringer, Smith, Vandiver, Watson, Wheeler, Reece, Daniel, Standridge, Kimsey/Kimzey, Bowen, and Hinkle. All were in Union, Habersham, Hall, White and Lumpkin counties. I would especially love to find someone else researching Hinkle as this is a big brick wall for me right now.
