Does anyone know how to remove the Gifts thing from 'My Page'?
I have moved it to the bottom, where it is less intrusive, but I am concerned that any number of unwanted gizmos could be added without any say from the individuals on whose pages they are being placed.
It is not a nice development.

As you know, I've been pretty excited to install Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 7. It was released today. Early this morning I checked out different software store's websites to see if they had any great specials. To my surprise, many of the stores said the software was already out of stock. I quickly got in my car and headed for the stores.

So maybe Grandpa didn't run off and join the circus, after all. Maybe he ran off and joined a faith-based community. In many cases family members did abandon families to join some sort of community or communal organization. There's definitely a story in there: Did he or she leave the family because the faith required it, did the family choose to stay behind, or did the family reject the person adopting a particular faith? Whatever the reason, when a family member drops off the radar,…

Last April (08) my son and my MOM and I went for a drive and to dinner in Bodega Bay. We drove around where the boats are now all parked instead of where they were when I was a youth. We went out on the Head and Al took many pictures of the bay, the ocean, the animals. We saw deer, rabbits, squirrels, and many birds. There was this one seagull that decided to be a friend, or entertain us.
The Seagull flew down and landed on the hood of the car while we were taking pictures it walked…

Parks often have a genealogical connection. Detweiller Park, in Peoria, Illinois, has the distinction of being connected to several local families. A large number of family names surface while reminiscing about this park.
In November 1927, Thomas H. Detweiller donated 661 acres to the park district. While the park carries the Detweiller name, it is in honor of Thomas’s father, Captain Henry Detweiller.
Henry Detweiller was born in Alsace Lorraine. His parents, Christian…

Doors are more than just doors.....Perhaps this cryptic statment would benefit from some clarification. Any one of us could look at a door and say, "that's an aluminum frame with screen to keep bugs out and let the breezes in. Or..."what a grand slab of carved wood with leaded glass inserts and gleaming hardware.
I, on the other hand, look at the doors in my family's two different homes and see something entirely different. The ones which I keep in memory lack any level of…

This has been quite a week! Over the weekend my aunt visited and she lent me some photos and documents, which I scanned. She has the most amazing collection of family information. I still can't believe some of the things she has! I am so grateful that she shared it with me. I even found the name of the town in Germany that one of my great-great-grandmothers was born in. Now if I could just read it! I also borrowed my father's baby book, and my grandmother put information in there about other…

I recently planned (and have since taken) a trip to Mildura, Victoria, which was going to include some family history research. I recently purchased the death certificate for Maria GROSE, my 3 x Great Grandmother, whose death was registered at Mildura in 1945. (This is a line for various reasons I have not done a lot of research on). I was going to visit the cemetery and visit her final resting place. Never presume. The prompt arrival of the certificate revealed she was in fact buried at…

I have had many recent breakthroughs, one truly bizarre one.
I have known for a long time that my 5th great grandmother, Barbara Culp, was scalped by Indians in South Carolina in 1761. She lived to have the child she was pregnant with and two more, including my 4th great grandmother.
My husband and I have been married for 36 years. He was raised in Illinois and Wisconsin. I grew up in the Southwest. We met when we were both in our late twenties. He came to my home town as…

Often in my classes I am asked what is the best method of storing pictures on a computer, after they have been scanned or digitally uploaded or downloaded. The questioner typically raises certain issues associated with those pictures. The issues include: A particular person may be called or thought of as John Smith in one picture, J.D. Smith in another and his full name may not as yet have been determined; a person may have several interesting pictures – one on a horse, one in a car, yet…
