My parents settled in Chicago , but not directly. My dad landed in Sheboygan, WI first and my mother lived in Philly before Chicago. We lived on the SW side of the city and the only other Lithuanians around were my grandparents and an elderly man that raised grapes that we used to go pick when I was a kid. I grew up around 87th and Ashland.
My husband's immediate family settled in Chicago also. They started out in Lake County, IN. They moved to Lima, Ohio, and then back to Chicago. Other members of the family never left Chicago. I have made good use of the Cook County Assessors Office website. I have been able to see pictures of where the families lived (if the house still exsits) and can share them with my relatives. They lived on South Artesian and South Laflin.
I've been seeing quite a few Chicago area resources fly by me recently. I always think you Chicagoans are so lucky...things are well-recorded. I'll try to find them again and add them above.
