Good morning.

I am researching in Dekalb, Fulton, Henry and Clayton counties the surnames TALIAFERRO, TOLLIVER/TOLIVER, CRAWFORD, DORSEY, and JACKSON.

As a side note, I am also researching the MOBLEY surname in GA with SC connections. I do not have this surname in my direct line, but I believe one of my brick wall ancestors, Miles TALIAFERRO/TOLIVER my gg grandfather, was the slave of a MOBLEY. I am especially interested in any info on a Ephraim MOBLEY who died circa 1838-1839, possibly in GA but with SC connections.

Thanks!
Sandra

Morning Sandra! If we turned out NOT to be related I would be really shocked!:-)

We are FAVERS & DORSEYS from Wilkes & Fulton County. I am ASKEW on my Great Grandfather's side - Walter Carl JACKSON. His father was said to have been a white ASKEW (Fulton Co.).

So that your areas of interest don't get lost, maybe consider changing the discussion name to Dekalb, Fulton, Henry & Clayton Counties and then leave your surname info in.

This way others researching in these counties will now where to post their information & read yours.

Morning Sandra,

My mother's first marriage, long before she met and married my dad, was to a Toliver. My mother met her first husband while she was attending college at Morris Brown (maternal grandparents were originally from GA but moved to NC). Not sure if his family was from GA though as I know he and my mom moved up north and I know his family was there when they were married to each other. I check with my mom and see if she's willing to talk about him and his family.
Thanks, Luckie. I think I get it. So, should I do an individual discussion for each set of counties/surnames in my orginal discussion?

Thanks, Mavis. If this Toliver family is from GA I would be very interested in hearing more about them. My gg grandfather Miles Taliaferro/Toliver had 5 sons that I know of--- John Wesley TALIAFERRO (my great grandfather), Alexander (Alex) TALIAFERRO, Robert (Bob) TALIAFERRO/TOLIVER, David (Dave) TALIAFERRO/TOLIVER, and Thomas TALIAFERRO/TOLIVER.

The name TALIAFERRO is pronounced either Tel-e-fair-o or Tol-i-ver. My line kept the TALIAFERRO spelling, but used the Tol-i-ver pronuciation (as did their slaver owners). Some time after 1880, David and Robert (and probably Thomas)started using the TOLIVER spelling. Probably because it was easier than explaining how the name is prounced one way, but spelled totally different (at least that's my theory). So, along with the TALIAFERROS I know that there are TOLIVERS/TOLLIVERS out there that I am related to as well.

Hey Sandra!

My 4th Grandmother Catie WINGFIELD married Joe DORSEY after 1885 when my Grandfather James was killed.

Joe was certainly Native-American, and the genetic features were inherent in all the DORSEY offspring.

Their Children - DAISY, GOLDIE, MACK & MISSIE. Daisy married a JACKSON, Missie married John STRINGER. Both remained in Fulton Co. until their death. Mack was away from the Family in Thomson, GA but eventlually returned home (Atlanta) right before his death. I've never been able to find much on Golide Dorsey.

There was always a DORSEY family that lived across the street from my Cousin Elbert Stringer in Decatur. I am told they were our cousins - though I never knew how. The house was owned by the Aunt of Atlanta's imfamous Sidney Dorsey.

Does anything ring a genetic bell?!:-)

Luckie.
Luckie,
None of those names ring a bell, but I'm getting this {{{{tingly}}}}}}} feeling which tells me somebody is stirring the ancestor pot. :) That name Goldie DORSEY sounds very familiar;gotta check my record son that one. You know, I'm right here in Atlanta, and am very familiar with that "infamous" Sidney Dorsey, but until now it had not dawned on me that my Mack DORSEY had a brother Sidney. I really think there is something to this DORSEY/JACKSON connection. I'll keep diggin' to see what surfsces.

Sandra
Hey Sandra!

I remembered that "the" Sidney's Aunt was "Blanche"... although I don't know her maiden name, she was a married Dorsey.

On my JACKSON side - My GG Grandmother was Lucy JACKSON HOUSEWORTH. She had sons Fred, Walter Carl {my Great Grandfather} & Marion - I'm forgetting one, God help me!:-) JACKSON. She married Houseworth later in life.

Marion is a story that is BEST dealt with offline... don't want to upset the dead with tossing dirty laundry - unnecessarily!:-)

I'm in Atlanta on July 25th through the week. We should grab a bite at Paschals!:-)

I am researching the Guess family. James, William, and Henry moved here in 1825 with their mother, Sophia. James continued to live here but, William and Henry moved on to Cobb County to build the railroad.
I have the marriage index for the AA marriages for Fulton and Dekalb if anyone needs any look-ups.
I am researching the Grant family of Henry County.
Lucinda GRANT b. bet. 1820-1828 was enslaved by William BROWN of Henry County (d. 1840), the widow Margaret BROWN (d. 1860) and finally William P. Grant, grandson of William and Margaret.
Known children of Lucinda were:
1. Harriet b. 1854 m. George W. Vandergriff
2. Gabriel b. 1856 m1 Marie, m2 Jane Wise
3. Amos b. 1858 m. Mary Darden

She may also have been the father of Henry Grant who was born about 1849. He is located in 1870 Henry County in a different location than Lucinda and minor children. He has a daughter named Lucinda and In 1880 he and family were located on the same census sheet as Lucinda, Gabriel, his wife and child and Amos. Enumerated right after Henry's family was a Henderson GRANT born about 1832 and his family. I could never find Henderson Grant or other family members before or after 1880. They just did the disappearing act!
